Preparing Oats
This is my preferred method for preparing oats for gourmet grows!
Materials
Whole Oats: Not rolled, or for people! These should still have the hulls
That’s it!
Procedure
- Measure each jar out. Quart jars should each hold 1-1.5 cups of dry oats.
- Pour your measured oats into a large pot and cover them with water. The water should be roughly twice the depth of the oats.
- Bring the pot to a low boil for about an hour. Once 30 minutes have past, check occasionally until some of the grains have burst.
- Once you see a few burst grains, immediately strain the grain and give it a stir. Let it sit for another hour.
- Load the boiled grain into your jars.
- Pressure cook at 17psi for 2 hours.
- Let the now sterile jars cool overnight and they’re ready for use!
